Erie Insurance is similar in all the best ways to the other homeowners insurance sites we reviewed. Don’t let the name turn you away from checking them out. Their name may be Erie, but it does not represent the selection and quality of insurance options they have to offer.
With this company, individuals are able to choose insurance for a home, condominium, renters or mobile home. Within each type of insurance, there is a variety of policies that can be designed to fit your specific needs. They also offer a HomeProtector option that allows individuals to add additional coverage to their policy based on their needs. There are three choices to choose from: Broadcover, Extracover and Ultracover. Each of these options adds extra coverage to certain things within your policy, and more detailed information is provided per selection.
One thing many of the other sites we reviewed had, but this site doesn’t, is the ability to do an online quote. Depending on your current need, this may present some issues when trying to compare prices online because you will need to contact the company for a quote.
There is an option to manage your account and pay your bill online, as well as file a claim. Being able to do this is quite a convenience and can save you a lot of time.
At first glance, this site has an overwhelming feeling. There are a lot of links and quite a bit of text, which makes it difficult to sift through. Once you click on homeowners insurance, you’ll have to scroll down a bit to find all the different insurance options available. Although the sidebar provides more detailed links, once there, the information is vague and put together in a way that you will need to contact them for more information.
This company may not have all the bells and whistles some of the others we reviewed had, but they sure have the attention of some industry rating associations. J.D. Powers rated them a 779 out of 1,000 for customer satisfaction in payment and billing, policy offerings and claims. They also received an A+ rating with A.M. Best and an AA rating with Standard and Poor’s. Basically what these two ratings signify is that the company is financially stable and has the ability to meet their financial commitments.
The level of help and support provided by the Erie Insurance site is average. They have a quick claim service, locator to find an agent, telephone, email, and mail support as well as a pretty comprehensive commonly asked questions page. They don’t supply an online chat option, but they do provide an option of “we’ll call you.” This can be very helpful if you don’t want to be on hold or have the time immediately to speak with them. It allows for more flexibility and convenience for you.
Although Erie Insurance didn’t top our list of online homeowners insurance sites, they still number among the best of the best online. They are financially solid and they do offer quite a list of insurance options that are competitively priced.
